I surprised Craig with a trip to Seattle back in September. It was seriously my favorite vacation I've ever been on. I love Seattle. LOVE it. The food, the smells, the weather. All of it. We went at the most perfect time of year.
When I opened my birthday gift [from Bones the cat] to revealed tickets to a Mariners game and plane tickets to leave the very next morning, Craig just repeated over and over, "NO WAY." He was stoked!
Passing Safeco Field, where the Mariners play, Craig lit up. He was beyond excited to be with his boys.
Our hotel room looked right out into the harbor. We could see all the big ships coming in and leaving. It was pretty neat.
If I lived in Seattle, I would come to Pike's Market at least once a month. The produce is heavenly. The flowers are so dang cheap. The smells of fresh baked bread and fresh fish frying are divine.
We ate lunch here at Pike Street Fish Fry. BEST FISH AND CHIPS. The cod almost melted in my mouth it was cooked so perfectly. (Great, now I'm hungry thinking about it.)
So many of the streets were cobblestone or brick. I loved walking through the streets taking it all in.
We spent some time in the EMP museum. It was so neat learning about so many musical artists and how the mix music, etc. Noah would have loved the "studio" area where you can play just about every rock band instrument.
We had dinner for my birthday at the restaurant in the Space Needle. It was absolutely delicious food, and we marveled at the view.
The next day we traveled by bus (and missed our stop putting us back by 30 minutes) to the University of Washington campus. Talk about GORGEOUS. It is a very old school, established in 1861, so the architecture was just so strong and beautiful.
We had brunch (rather than breakfast thanks to our bus mishap) at the Portage Bay Cafe near campus. It was all local and fresh ingredients, and I stuffed my face. I miss the food of Seattle, can you tell?
So, this building is the Suzzallo library on campus. It is amazing. We were told to look inside, and I'm so glad we did. It looks like Hogwarts. I could have snuggled up to a good book and stay in there for hours. SO COOL.
Walking around campus on a Saturday, we soon realized there was a big football game just about to begin. We checked out Stubhub, found $13 tickets (9th row!), and went to the game. It was a fun game! Craig saw a hero of his, the Sonics guy. #bringbackthesonics We had a great time.
Go Huskies!!
After the football game, we headed back into town for the Mariners game. (A lot of sports that day. I'm up for it, though. I had a good time!) It was like Christmas morning for Craig.
It was a long game, going 11 innings. Mariners pulled off a win just for us, though!!
Craig's NFL love, the Seahawks, has their stadium literally right next to Safeco Field. There is an alley that is just filled with shops full of all Seattle sports memorabilia. Craig picked himself a 12th man flag and a few other goodies.
Our last day in Seattle included a morning ride on the ferry to Bainbridge Island. We have breakfast and the smallest little diner. It was the coldest day, but it was just perfect for me. We walked around for a bit, then got back on the ferry to head back to the city.
We made one last stop to Pike's Market to get myself a giant pomegranate to bring home before heading to the train for the airport. This trip was short and sweet, but so needed. Craig really dreams of going to UW for his grad program, and I believe he can achieve that dream. I cannot wait to return to the city I fell hard for.
