19 Month Update

It has been forever since I did an official update of Noah. He has grown so much, so I knew I would be kicking myself if I didn't get some of these memories down. Warning: It's a long one.

Noah will be 19 months as of May 28th. In the past 3 or so months, he has made the transition into toddler-hood  I will be the first to admit that it's been a rocky transition, but it is so exciting to see the things he is learning and discovering for the first time.

Back in March, Noah came down with a high fever. We have been so fortunate for him not have had a real illness up to this point, so I was really nervous. He was super lethargic and almost unresponsive in moments. The fever started on a Friday, and by Monday morning still hadn't broken. I took him in to see the doctor, and he told us it was just a virus, probably the flu, and that it would go away. The next day his fever broke (down to 99 degrees anyway). The problem now is that he had a severe rash on his back and tummy. I decided rather than spending another $75 to see the doctor that I'd google his symptoms and see what to do. Word for word I realized he had roseola. It's fairly common in children 3 and under. The rash lasted 3 days, then faded the next 2-3 days. After his fever broke, he was himself again. It was a scary week for me, probably because that was the first time as a parent I felt truly and completely helpless. I didn't know how to comfort him or make him feel better. I know there will be times that feeling will return, but I'm good for a while, please.

Noah's eating habits have been so fickle lately. He has always been such a great eater, so to see his preferences start to pop up has been kind of frustrating. We found that he will eat just about anything if it's either covered in cheese or if we give him ketchup to dip it in. He still love veggies and would eat avocados all day. The fruit has been narrowed to berries, occasionally bananas, and the small obsession with applesauce. (It's probably my fault for getting a box of applesauce pouches from Costco.)
The NMan is at the "everybody's my friend" stage in his social development. He loves to run up to children at the park, no matter their age, and just starts playing along with whatever they're doing. Usually this doesn't go over well with the other children, but it doesn't seem to bother Noah. He just laughs and keeps trying to play. I can see how the world really does bring these happy, friendly, energetic kids' self-esteem down. It worries me as a parent to see this in action. Luckily, Noah has yet to be offend by a kid saying, "Let's go over here, away from that baby."

He does have a few friends he gets to see on a pretty regular basis. Ethan, Craig's mission companion's son, and Noah are both very much boys. They love dirt and balls and trucks. They are only about 1 1/2 months apart, so they play really well together.
I do a babysitting swap with a friend from high school, and her adorable son, Corbin, and Noah love to play with all of Noah's toy cars together. They also enjoy taking walks to see the fun tractors on our street.

Speaking of tractors and cars, can you guess what Noah is most obsessed with? Guys, I'm not even kidding, it's his life right now. Grandma Knight turned on Pixar Cars one time, and he HAS to watch at least 15 minutes of it every day. He even knows how to turn on the TV or her iPad now because of it. He loves cars, trucks, tractors, diggers, bobcats, etc. If it has wheels, an engine, and moves, then he has to watch, touch, point, scream with excitement-THE WORKS. He has this thing he does when he wants something and one of us figures out what it is. He tenses up his whole body, sucks in, and shivers every part with excitement. It is seriously SO funny.

He always has a car/truck/tractor in his hands complete with sound effects.
The thing about our street is that everyone seems to be doing something with their yards. Our neighbors have bobcats, four wheelers, excavators  and giant lawn mowers that are pure entertainment for hours on end for the little dude.

His word list is relatively small, but he is jibber jabbering all the time now. He can say "car," "kuck" (truck), "tractor," "papa" (his favorite person in the world, Doug), "gramma" (sounds like Ma-ma with the emphasis on the first M), "mah" (mom), "dadee" (daddy), "mouw" (meow), "moo" (milk and what cows say), "woof," "teef" (teeth, when he wants to brush his teeth), "shooz" (shoes, he LOVES his shoes), "huhsss" (which I think is horse...but then he says it at random times when there is no horse around). Those are the words I know for sure what he means. It's been getting to that point where he says something, but I have NO idea what he is trying to say. Then we have to play the guessing game of what it is that he wants. With each wrong guess, he gets more and more frustrated. He has even thrown full on tantrums now when he's tired and I don't know what he wants. I wish I had taught him some sign language to help!
His sleeping habits changed dramatically a little over a month ago when he climbed out of his crib. (I now realize that we probably shouldn't have been teaching him rock climbing techniques...) That first week was AWFUL. His bedroom door doesn't shut tight, so we ended up having to literally ziptie the door shut. It was the only way he would stay in there. Nighttime is MUCH better now, but he is still haven't trouble with naps. I've found him in a few interesting places like his closet or just passed out on the floor.

He has taken a huge interested in reading and looking through books, so we love to go to the library. I let him choose a few, then I choose some that I know will help with word development and knowledge of colors, shapes, etc. His choices almost always include a car, truck, tractor, or a dog. We even caught him falling asleep at night looking at his favorite book.

He likes to brush his teeth and hair at the same time I am every morning. I love it!
He LOVES Lily the boxer. LOVES her. He imitates like her all the time, going in and out of the dog door, drinking the dog water, and eating the dog kibble. (GROSS)
I love that he is becoming like a little friend rather than a baby. He is so much fun to be around. Even in those frustrating moments, I can't help to thank my Heavenly Father for giving me such an easy going little man. We love him so much!

I know exactly what you mean when it comes to the little ones trying to play with the older kids.. I've had a few be mean to Ethan where they started pushing him away.. Woah was I upset. Ethan could care less and didn't know what was going on. I think I may have a hard time when other people offend my kids... Ha. But yes it's such a fun age and Noah is so cute! So glad Ethan and him can be friends.
