Pledge

No. Not that type of Pledge. I'm not trying to get any wood looking beautiful. I am, on the other hand, making a public pledge to do something I haven't done in a very long time.

When I was younger, the elementary and middle school days, I was an avid reader. I would read a book a week, if not more. Since then, I, well, haven't really read anything except for school required pages in a textbook. (Harry Potter doesn't really count.) I admire friends who have a love for reading. I look and them and think, "Man, I really wish I could read books like that" or "I want to join a book club like so and so".

So, I am making the pledge, a goal, to become a reader. This is part of my "100 things to do before I die." I want to read. I want to grow and have my imagination fly again.

For my government class I am taking at Snow College, I am required to read at least 600 pages. For this assignment I chose 2 books to read: Founding Mothers by Cokie Roberts and Band of Brothers by Stephen Ambrose. (I love the TV series Band of Brothers, so I figure I'll stay interested in the book, too.) I have until the middle of April to read them both. They are each around 300 pages.

Now, to you readers out there-don't judge. I know that isn't very long of a book and you'd probably get through it in a week or two, but I am worried that I won't keep up. It's not that I can't read or anything. I just get bored. This is why I am making this goal public so I have a motivation of sorts. After I finished these books I am planning on setting the goal of reading 1 book per month. Eventually, I'd like to make it 2. I want to become a reader!
